We use SafeDisc copy protection for most of our products. Unfortunately various versions of this may have issues with some hardware. The following is what we know could be troublesome cd- or dvd-drives (it depends a bit on what product and the version of that product you are running).
Pan International CyberDrive 240
Once a bad sector is read, all following reads are returned as bad and the game disc will not play correctly.
ASUS CD-S400
On Windows 9X, when the DMA option is selected for this CD Drive, the drive freezes during CD initialization. To allow the game to play successfully from this drive, disable the DMA option for the drive and reboot the system. Consult your operating system help files for instructions on turning off the DMA setting.
Matshita CR-581-B
On Windows NT 4, initialization may fail and the game may not play. Windows 9x, Windows 2000 and Windows XP work correctly.
Philips CDD2000
The game is incompatible with this drive.
LG GDR-8161B
The game is incompatible with this DVD drive. This drive is apparently also known as model HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8161B.
Toshiba HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR-8081N (Sep 2002 Laptop drive)
The game is incompatible with this DVD drive.
LG HL-DT-STDVDRAM GMA-4020B Apr 2003 IDE (internal drive)
The game has known intermittent problems with this drive. Most of the time it does work but on occasion the game will fail to start.
AOPEN COM5232/AAH PRO
This drive can have problems with FMs copy protection. It is uncertain if this is limitd to some systems or of it is true for all systems. AOpens eForum has a thread the describes the problem. When using this drive it may cause the game or the entire system to crash. There are firmware updates for this drive (see the AOpen download pages) but they appear to have no effect.
Acer CD-624a
The drive fails when used with real-mode drivers. To fix this, install protected-mode drivers.
Memorex CD-RW2224
The drive is incompatible with the current version of SafeDisc.
Plextor CD-ROM PX-32TS (SCSI)
Certain versions of this CD-ROM drive may be incompatible with SafeDisc.
Sanyo CRD-256P
The drive enters a not ready state after several attempts to start the game. This drive is incompatible with the current version of SafeDisc.
Sony CDU77E
Early 1.0 firmware versions of this drive fail if configured as a slave on the IDE bus. The drive will work if reconfigured as a master.
Yamaha 2216E, 4416SX, and CDR6416S-VK
These drives are incompatible with the current version of SafeDisc.
